Holiday Concert in Milford: The Fab Four of Early Music

For Immediate Release

MILFORD, PA -- New York Polyphony will present a holiday concert at the Milford Theatre on Dec. 10th. Dubbed "the Fab Four of early music," this male quartet will perform a program that ranges from Lionel Power (1375-1445) to Andrew Smith (b. 1970), a composer with deep roots in Gregorian chant and other forms of early vocal music. They will sing English medieval carols, "The Darkest Night in December" (an Irish folk melody), "I Saw Three Ships" by Ralph Vaughn Williams, "The Lamb" by John Taverner, and other religious songs of the season.

Featuring countertenor Geoffrey Williams, tenor Geoffrey Silver, baritone Christopher Dylan Herbert, and bass Craig Phillips, New York Polyphony has made a splash since its conception in 2006:

Gramophone Magazine named I Sing the Birth, the group's debut CD in 2007,  "one of the season's best," and BBC Music Magazine selected it as the Editor's Christmas Choice. (New York Polyphony will perform some tracks from this ethereal album at the Milford concert.)
The group's current CD, Tudor City, spent three weeks on the Top 10 of Billboard's classical album chart.
New York Polyphony has gotten raves for their strong, flawless harmonies from Dallas to New York City's Mostly Mozart Festival to Denmark.
Typical reviews:
"Though they've made a name for themselves singing music that's hundreds of years old, the four men of New York Polyphony are unequivocally voices of their own times, not ancient times."
"One of the hottest new classical music ensembles."
"They perform with an expressive intensity that commands attention."

This 7:30 p.m. concert ($20 for adults, free for children under 12) is a production of Kindred Spirits Arts Programs, a nonprofit organization that offers concerts and music education programs in northeastern Pennsylvania. The event is co-sponsored by Mrs. Barbara J. Buchanan. Tickets are available on the Kindred Spirits Arts Programs website and at Books and Prints, 220 Broad Street, MIlford, 570.409.1269.
