ALL THAT JAZZ  An art in retrospective

MILFORD, PA - When bass player Don Miller and his quartet perform March 20th at Dingman-Delaware Middle School in Dingmans Ferry, PA, they really will be playing all that jazz. From old-time Dixieland to swing, bebop to bossa nova, and funk to contemporary, the Don  Miller Band will lead a music-filled trip from Jelly Roll Morton's era to the 21st century.

It would be hard to imagine anyone better to lead such a journey, for Miller has performed every style of jazz with musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Slide Hampton, Mongo Santamaria, and Clark Terry. He is so versatile--he plays both acoustic and electric bass--that he has even appeared with pop stars like Britney Spears, Sha Na Na, and The Marvelettes.

"I love the Great American Songbook and the early compositions by the founding fathers of jazz. It is pure, honest, and simply some of the finest music ever contributed to America and the world," says Miller. "Likewise, I love "new" jazz, from bebop to modal to the compositions of Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, etc. They wrote so many gorgeous pieces of music."

Miller’s bandmates are masters of their instruments, too. They include saxophonist and flutist Eric Person, pianist Eric Olsen, and percussionist Eliot Sigmund, three veterans who have jammed with the legends and won praise for their recordings.
